You don’t need GPS receiver to find your location!
Today, I updated my Google Maps Mobile verison to 2.0.3. In first start, my location has appeared on the map. I’m very suprised. because I didn’t have any GPS receiver.
It shows your location within 1000-1700 meters. This feature probably using your Cell ID. Because each cell station has a location data on the earth..

Well i tried the above feature in India. It works here too.
But it shows my location at an error of 1-1.5KM.
It shows the location of the Cell Signal tower location in my mobile.
I followed the my location point and came to the point which it was showing and when i reached there i saw the tower overhead.
So the location is not pin point accurate but is a good stuff for without GPS receiver to get position nearby when they are lost.
Good Work Google really nice to see more of Google Maps.

Mobile Google Maps 2.07 already available!
Well it works for the 1st time with the CELL TOWER… but twice it has a problem it needs to use data either GPRS/EDGE or WLAN if u are on the street tell me from where would it identify … i tried so many time tried resetting but it gives the same thing everytime about asking for data Connection and only then it tell u where u are .. whwn i get connected.
well…. it really makes a phone call or just establish connection with the nearest cell??? i hope it is not spending our money… although it can be very useful…
